Miracle Johan vs. the Boston Celtics

In early 2005, Johan was recording some strange music in the basement. When he went to layer on some vocals, his mind drew a blank. He decided to rant/sing about what was actually on his mind: later that night, Antoine Walker was set to make his return to the Boston Celtics. The result was weird…a tape-slowed vocal over an electric Miles Davis inspired mess rambling about an NBA player.

Johan’s friends liked it well enough so he decided to post it on Celticsblog.com forums pretending like he had just stumbled across the recording on the internet. The Celtics fans liked it too and Johan admitted it was him and even promised to write a song for each player on every roster until they won a championship.

Fortunately, that only took four seasons. And while Johan didn’t get to every single player, it is interesting to see the song strategy and sophistication develop through the years. What started as a 4-track project ended up moving to Garageband and saw Johan cutting up samples from Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn to make choruses and interludes.

If you weren’t watching the Celtics between 2004 and 2008, what a better way to relive their rise from the outhouse to the penthouse. Take a spin through the years below!
